COVID-19 outbreak at a mine in B.C. now includes 42 cases

Northern Health says it has identified new cases linked to an outbreak at the Brucejack Mine near Stewart, BC.

The health authority says the new cases bring the total associated with the mine to 42, a dozen of which are active and self-isolating.

There are about 485 employees working at the project site and anyone identified as cases or close contacts have been instructed to self-isolate either on-site or in their home communities, Northern Health said.

Further south, Fraser Health announced an outbreak at the Mission Memorial Hospital.

Three patients at the hospital tested positive.

As a result two units were temporarily closed.

British Columbia announced 429 new daily cases and three new deaths yesterday.

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Ford pickup truck on Highway 3 in the Hope area of B.C. Wednesday night. Hope RCMP said police received a report of the collision at around 8:38 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, the pedestrian had already died. Just minutes before the crash, police had also received a report of a person walking in the slow lane near the Highway 1 junction on Highway 5. Police said the truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Corporal Carmen Keener said there were no initial indications that alcohol was a factor.
