The trial of a former clerk of the B-C legislature is to continue today after a surprise revelation about two new sets of documents that a court heard may help defence lawyers. Crown prosecutor David Butcher told a B-C Supreme Court judge he learned of the documents during an interview with the executive financial officer at the legislature. Court has not yet heard what was in the documents, which Butcher acknowledged were a surprise for the defence team. Police in New Westminster are hoping to find the person who donated a blazer with some valuable items in a pocket. The size 48 grey blazer with a white pinstripe and blue lining was found in a thrift store in that city. But police say it's unclear where it may have been donated before ending up in the New Westminster store. Sergeant Sanjay Kumar says people who donate clothing should check the pockets to ensure they don't contain any items of significant value.

The Mounties called in explosive experts after a person walked into one of their offices in Surrey, B.C., with a grenade on Thursday.The RCMP say someone went to their Guildford office to hand over the device, saying it was found at a nearby park.The office and surrounding area had to be evacuated because it was unclear if the grenade was still functioning.Streets around the detachment were also closed as a precaution.Const. Parole will be continued for the man convicted of helping to kill his friend's mother and grandmother in Tsawwassen more than 30 years ago. A Parole Board of Canada decision released earlier this month says Derik Lord, who was a teen at the time of the murders but is now 48, can remain on day parole four nights a week at the home of his spouse and son, but must return to a Vancouver Island halfway house for the other three nights. RCMP in the Fraser Valley say a man from northern BC has died in a head-on crash on a bridge near Chilliwack. Police say the man, in his 30's, was alone in his pickup truck yesterday when it veered into the path of an oncoming transport truck on the Agassiz-Rosedale bridge. The crash closed Highway 9 for hours but traffic is moving again. The driver of the transport truck is unhurt.

Officials in Ottawa have confirmed the identities of four Indian nationals whose bodies were found frozen in Manitoba near the border with the US last week. The High Commission of India released a notice saying the four who died were a 39 year old man, a 37 year old woman, an 11 year old girl and a 3 year old boy. Investigators believe the family of four died attempting to cross over the border by foot on January 19th during severe winter weather.

Former Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen has been charged with sexual assault following a police investigation. Vancouver police said Thursday the B.C. Prosecution Service approved one count of sexual assault against Virtanen, 25, in relation to an incident that occurred on Sept. 26, 2017, when Virtanen was playing for the Canucks. Police launched an investigation in May 2021 after a 23-year-old woman filed a complaint.
