Both pilots killed after IAF Mig-21 crashes near Rajasthan's Barmer
The Indian Air Force said that both the pilots in a twin-seater Mig-21 trainer aircraft died after sustaining fatal injuries when it crashed near Barmer district of Rajasthan on Thursday.
According to the IAF, the aircraft crashed around 9.10 pm today.
"A twin-seater Mig-21 trainer aircraft of the IAF was airborne for a training sortie from Utarlai air base in Rajasthan this evening. Around 9:10 pm, the aircraft met with an accident near Barmer.
Both pilots sustained fatal injuries," the IAF said in a tweet.

Alberta expands eligibility of monkeypox vaccine, Shots starting Friday
Alberta is expanding its eligibility for the monkeypox vaccine.
Starting today, residents 18 and older can make a booking for the shot if they are determined to be at a high risk for exposure to the virus.
Previously, the vaccine was available only to close contacts of a confirmed case.
Shots for the new eligible group start tomorrow.
Alberta has confirmed 13 cases of monkeypox, according to Alberta Health Services.
Alberta is working with the federal government to secure more doses of the vaccine. The federal government will release additional doses from the National Emergency Strategic Stock

170 Punjab govt school teachers, educators visit Delhi schools
A delegation of 170 government school teachers and educators of Punjab led by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Director visited Delhi government schools on Thursday to see the teaching-learning activities including happiness classes, an official statement said.
The teachers visited 35 Delhi government schools. During their visit, they interacted with Delhi school teachers and students and also attended the class mindset curricula.

US Bank workers opened fake accounts for sales goals
NEW YORK : For more than a decade, US Bank pressured its employees to open fake accounts in their customers' names in order to meet unrealistic sales goals, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau said Thursday, in a case that is deeply similar to the sales practices scandal uncovered at Wells Fargo last decade.
The CFPB alleged that US Bank accessed consumers credit reports to open checking and savings accounts, credit cards and lines of credit without their permission.

Vinod Ghai to take over as Punjab Advocate General: Bhagwant Mann
Eminent lawyer Vinod Ghai is set to be the next advocate general of Punjab, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Thursday.
"He is a competent lawyer and we sincerely hope that the cases of Punjab will be properly advocated," said Mann after he emerged from a cabinet meeting.
Mann also said that the state cabinet has approved the new milling policy, for the upcoming paddy harvest season.

Alberta consumers face ‘unprecedented’ utility costs
The price of electric power in Alberta has taken another big jump.
Sophie Simmonds, the director of Anova Energy, says the regulated rate for consumers has increased by more than 150 per cent in the past 18 months.
The Alberta Utilities Commission has approved the regulated rate option prices for the month of August and they remain at historic highs.
Both Enmax and Epcor have had rates higher than 17 cents per kilowatt-hour and Direct Energy's regulated rate sits at just under 17 cents.

Hockey Canada paid $7.6M in sex abuse settlements since 1989
Hockey Canada continues to be under fire for the use of its membership-generated National Equity Fund to pay settlements related to sexual assault and abuse allegations. Hockey Canada says it has paid out 7.6 million dollars in nine such settlements since 1989. It says 6.8 million dollars of that was related to serial abuser coach Graham James. The fund was also used to pay for the services of a law firm that has been investigating an alleged sexual assault in 2018 that has Hockey Canada officials before a committee of MPs this week.

Strong earthquake hits northern Philippines, kills 5
A strong earthquake set off landslides and damaged buildings in the northern Philippines on Wednesday, killing at least five people and injuring dozens. In the capital, hospital patients were evacuated and terrified people rushed outdoors.
