Punjab government is preparing to make 8 government colleges into autonomous colleges
The Punjab government has taken such a decision regarding the government colleges which has started a protest.
According to the information, the state government will give autonomous status to 8 big government colleges, under which these colleges will have to collect funds themselves after getting autonomy and will have to bear all the expenses for running the college themselves.
This means that these colleges will be free to increase the fees. Punjab Congress has strongly condemned this decision of Aam Aadmi Party.

Trial of Coutts protesters resumes after men convicted of mischief, weapons charges
Lawyers for two men convicted of mischief at the border blockade at Coutts, Alta., are scheduled to appear in court today as the case moves toward sentencing.
A jury on Aug. 2 also found Anthony Olienick and Chris Carbert guilty of possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and Olienick was convicted of possessing a pipe bomb.
They were acquitted of the more serious charge of conspiring to murder police officers.
RCMP found a cache of weapons, ammunition and body armour near the blockade at the Canada-U.S. border crossing in 2022.

Police in London say a man is arrested after a child and adult were stabbed in a busy square
London’s Metropolitan Police say a man has been arrested after an 11-year-old and a 34-year-old were stabbed in central London.
The attack occurred in Leicester Square, which is heavily visited by tourists at this time of year.
The stabbing occurred as Britain has been on edge after more than a week of unrest.

Officials lift brief evacuation order for Valemount, B.C. ask fire risk eases
An evacuation order issued Saturday due to out-of-control wildfires south of Valemount, B.C., has been cancelled.
Residents in the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George and the Village of Valemount that were ordered to flee can return home.
Residents from properties east of Highway 5, south of 17th Ave, and north of the Canoe River were ordered to leave Saturday, and an evacuation alert is now in place for the Cedarside area meaning residents can remain home but should prepare for a potential order to evacuate.

Jasper evacuees to get information on phased re-entry of town today
Details about when and how evacuated residents of Jasper will be allowed to return to their homes nearly three weeks after a wildfire forced them to flee will be announced today.
Parks Canada says Unified Incident Command will hold a virtual media briefing this morning to provide information on the phased re-entry into the town of Jasper.
On Saturday, Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland said the date when people will be permitted back into the town would come Monday.

Passenger plane crashes in Brazil's Sao Paulo state. It's unclear how many people were aboard
A plane able to carry dozens of passengers crashed in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on Friday, local media reported, but it was not immediately clear how many people were aboard.
The local firefighters corps confirmed that the plane fell in the city of Vinhedo, but did not offer more details.
Brazil’s TV GloboNews showed footage of a large area on fire and smoke coming out of an apparent plane fuselage.

Manu Bhakar meet Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday meet Indian shooter Manu Bhakar, who wins two medals in the Paris Olympics, at his Chandigarh residence.
Manu is the first Indian to win two consecutive medals in one Olympics. CM Mann congratulated on her historic victory and also took a picture with him.

Calgary mayor says city considering replacing water pipe that ruptured
Calgary's mayor says the city is considering ways to strengthen a key water main for the long term, including replacing it altogether.
Jyoti Gondek says in the spring the city could add a liner or a sleeve to the pipe to strengthen it, or dig alongside it and built an entirely new one.
The pipe in northwest Calgary ruptured in early June, drenching a stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway and nearby parkland.
The break forced Calgarians to undertake a series of water conservation measures, from not watering lawns to taking shorter showers.

Canada imposes sanctions on anniversary of fraudulent 2020 Belarus election
Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly says Canada his imposed sanctions on 10 people and six entities on the anniversary of the fraudulent 2020 presidential elections in Belarus.
The sanctions are in response to what Joly describes as ongoing and systematic human rights abuses in Belarus, and support for Russia's illegal war of aggression against Ukraine.
The list includes judges who Canada says have arbitrarily condemned citizens for expressing their opposition to the 2020 elections.
