Canada's new Carney government is going to put limits on visas for temporary workers and international students.
The prime minister said during a series of announcements in Ottawa on Friday that the total number of temporary workers and international students will be limited to less than 5 per cent of Canada's population by 2027 to reduce the burden on housing, public infrastructure and social services. PM Carney said that this would be a big drop from the 7.3 per cent in recent years.

Girl missing after following dog into wooded area in Chilliwack, B.C.
Mounties in British Columbia are looking for a seven-year-old child who went missing in Chilliwack on Thursday after following her neighbour's dog into a wooded area.They say the girl was last seen around 4 p.m. on the 50800block of Winona Road.Police describe the girl as Caucasian, four feet tall with light brown hair and brown eyes, saying she was wearing all pink clothing when she disappeared.The RCMP say an air and ground search of the area is currently underway.

PM Carney to enter Parliament later this month
Prime Minister Mark Carney will enter Parliament with his fellow members later this month. The House of Commons is due to resume sitting on May 26, the first day of the 45th Parliament. Police charge accused attackers and victims in Calgary vigilante case
Police in Calgary have charged seven people in what they're calling a case of vigilante justice. They say it began when officers arrested three men and a youth who had allegedly lured a man through an online dating app to a remote location.
Police say the man was assaulted with a baseball bat and a replica gun, and his vehicle was vandalized. They say officers recovered video of the assaults from cellphones and further investigation revealed two similar attacks.

Wildfire prompts evacuations in Fort St. John, B.C., city says
Firefighters from Fort St. John, B.C., and the provincial wildfire service are battling a blaze that the city says has prompted evacuations.
A bulletin on the city's website says the fire is located in the Fish Creek Community Forest on the northern outskirts of the city.
The city has directed evacuees from Rose Prairie Road and the Jones subdivision area to proceed to the Pomeroy Sport Centre. The BC Wildfire Service website indicates the out-of-control blaze was discovered Thursday and spans 56 hectares.
