Maharani Praneet Kaur will join BJP tomorrow
Former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh's wife Maharani Praneet Kaur is joining the BJP tomorrow. Sources say that the BJP can announce him as a candidate from Patiala, from where he was MP earlier.
Are Captain Amarinder Singh joined the BJP in 2021 after the Congress removed him as Chief Minister, although Praneet Kaur did not resign from the Congress in the meantime and the party had to suspend her.
79-year-old Praneet Kaur is a 4-time Member of Parliament from Patiala.

MPs to question main contractor on ArriveCan app at House committee
MPs will have another chance to question the people behind the main contract for the ArriveCan app at a House committee meeting today.
This will mark the third time GC Strategies partner Kristian Firth testifies before MPs, with his business partner Darren Anthony set to meet the committee on Thursday.
The two IT recruiters did not build the app, but were tasked by the federal government with assembling a team to complete certain parts of the project, which had an overall cost of $60 million.

Amit Shah makes big statement regarding Citizenship Amendment Act
Home Minister Amit Shah's office has issued a statement regarding the CAA (Citizen Amendment Act) implemented in India to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, in which the Home Ministry said that 18 crore Indian Muslims do not need to fear this law under any circumstances, it will not affect their citizenship and community.
The Home Ministry said that Indian Muslims have the same rights as others.

B.C. to hike commercial vehicle crash penalties after 35 over-height truck incidents
Penalties for commercial truck crashes into overpasses or other infrastructure in British Columbia are set to soar, including fines of up to $100,000 and jail sentences up to 18 months.
The New Democrat government says it's proposing changes to the Commercial Transport Act that currently prescribes fines for over-height vehicles of $500 to $598, levels that are unchanged for decades.
Transportation Minister Rob Fleming says the proposed changes are in response to 35 crashes involving over-height commercial vehicles since late 2021.

Congress can play in the name of Channi on the Jalandhar seat
Congress has approved the name of former Chief Minister Charanjit Channi to contest Lok Sabha elections from Jalandhar seat of Punjab.
If reports are to be believed, the Congress High Command may announce it soon.
The High Command has taken this decision in view of the SC vote bank and Channi's popularity.
It is to be noted that Jalandhar is a reserved Lok Sabha seat and the SC community has the highest number of votes here.
Reports say that Congress has finalized candidates for 7 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, although this could not be confirmed.

Western Canada's cold snap in January causes $180 million in insurance damages
Extreme cold near the start of this year in British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan has led to a damage bill that the Insurance Bureau of Canada says is more than $180 million.
The bureau says about 70 per cent of the insurance claims related to the extreme cold were for personal property and damage caused by frozen and burst water pipes.
The cold moved in Jan. 12, breaking dozens of daily minimum records, including in Edmonton where there were four straight days of cold ranging from minus 40 to minus 45 degrees.

Partap Singh Bajwa raised the issue of CAA in the Vidhan Sabha
Senior leader of Punjab Congress Partap Singh Bajwa has challenged the Bhagwant Mann government of the state to clarify its stand on the Center's CAA (Citizen Amendment Act).

Imran Khan is not even allowed to hold a meeting in jail, a ban of 2 weeks
Jail visits with founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Party and former Prime Minister Imran Khan have been banned. Local reports say that the Punjab Home Department has issued these orders on Tuesday citing security threats.
Imran Khan is currently serving his sentence in Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail. The Punjab Home Department has imposed this ban for two weeks and media coverage in front of the jail gate number-5 has also been banned.
