RCMP Continue Investigation into Fatal Boating Collision; Remaining Witnesses urged to Speak Up
North Vancouver RCMP continue to investigate a fatal boat collision and are calling on witnesses to come forward.On June 7, 2025, North Vancouver RCMP responded to reports of a serious collision involving a speedboat and an inflatable tube with two children on it. Sadly, one child died as a result, and a second child was airlifted to a nearby hospital in critical condition. The second child remains in hospital. Police are unable to provide further details on the condition of the second child.The boat operator was arrested on scene and has since been released on an Undertaking to Appear (UTA),

The 2025 wildfire season is on track to be Canada's 2nd-worst on record
The area burned by wildfires so far this season is the second-largest on record in Canada, according to government data.
Officials with Public Safety Canada held a technical briefing this morning in Ottawa to update media outlets on the state of multiple wildfires.
They say the greatest fire danger in July is expected to be in southern British Columbia, while the Northwest Territories and Yukon will face an increased risk of wildfires.

Federal Jobs Minister Patty Hajdu is taking an important step to resolve the dispute between Canada Post and the union, under which postal workers will have to vote on Canada Post's latest offer.
This was requested by Canada Post itself, saying that the issue with the union did not seem to be resolved. Jobs Minister Hajdu said that after 18 months of negotiations, more than 200 meetings, a 33-day strike and a lockout in the fall, the issue between Canada Post and the union has not been resolved, so ordering postal workers to vote is in the public interest.

SPS investigating after shots fired at Newton neighbourhood business
Surrey Police Service (SPS) officers are investigating a shots fired at a Newton neighbourhood business.
On Tuesday, June 10 at 9:30 am, SPS was called to a business located in 7000 block of 128 Street for a report of shots fired that had occurred sometime during the night. Upon police arrival it was quickly determined that the shots were fired during the night while the business was closed and there were no injuries reported.

SPS officers rescue two residents in suspicious overnight fire
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is investigating a suspicious overnight fire in Surrey’s Newton neighbourhood that has left two vehicles and one home damaged, and several residents displaced.
Shortly before 1:45 am on June 11, 2025, SPS Frontline officers responded to reports from a resident in the 13400 block 64 Avenue that a house on his street was on fire. Officers quickly arrived and encountered two vehicles and the front of a house on fire and active explosions happening. Residents of a basement suite were able to safely be evacuated but officers were advised about two upstairs residents.
