Supreme Court Calls Jagjit Singh Dallewal a ‘True Farmer Leader’
Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal has ended his hunger strike after 123 days, according to the state government during a hearing on the farmers' issue in the Supreme Court.
Punjab government Advocate General Gurminder Singh informed the top court that Dallewal ended his fast to the death by drinking water today. He had been on hunger strike since November 26. The Supreme Court, while praising Dallewal, referred to him as a true farmer leader who raised the genuine issues of the farming community without any political agenda.

Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has announced plans to introduce a law that would impose life sentences on individuals convicted of trafficking, gun smuggling, and fentanyl distribution if his party forms the next government. He also pledged to strengthen bail rules, arguing that current laws are not stringent enough for repeat offenders.
Poilievre stated that individuals convicted of five or more counts of human trafficking or 10 or more counts of illegal weapons trafficking would face life imprisonment. The same penalty would apply to large-scale fentanyl trafficking.
