Police are investigating what they describe as a suspicious death in Maple Ridge, B.C. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says a body was found in a rural area of the city on Saturday. A statement from the team says it was called when suspicions were raised about the circumstances surrounding the body and the area it was found. Detective Lara Jansen says the victim remains unidentified. She says the homicide team is working with Maple Ridge RCMP, forensic experts and the BC Coroners Service to gather more details. Police say a 17-year-old driver is dead following a crash in West Vancouver. It happened around 4 a.m. Saturday on Marine Drive. Police say the teenage driver from North Vancouver lost control of his BMW and slid into a power pole. They say a 19-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the car, was taken to hospital in unknown condition. Investigators say they believe speed was a factor in the crash.

British Columbia's Appeal Court has reaffirmed a teenager's decision to have gender transition treatment and urged the boy's father to try to understand his son's gender dysphoria. The father, whose identity is under a publication ban along with his son's, went to court when he learned his female-born child was undergoing hormone therapy because he perceived himself to be a male. The B.C. Supreme Court sided with the boy in an earlier decision, saying he didn't need his father's consent for treatment, and an injunction was later issued against the dad ordering that any attempt to persuade the

RCMP say an extensive investigation into drug trafficking in the Campbell River area has led to charges being approved for 10 individuals, with charges recommended for 10 others. Mounties say they conducted the operation known as 'E-Parody' in November and December last year. They say drugs seized and tested as a result of the investigation included fentanyl, carfentanil, heroin, morphine, cocaine and methamphetamine. Constable Maury Tyre says the investigation shows people are knowingly requesting and distributing fentanyl.

Surrey councilors Jack Hundial and Brenda Locke responded to allegations laid on them by Mayor McCallum in Sver Wala Show yesterday. Hundial said Mayor's decision to not add more safety personnel to the local police will be a wrong move. Yesterday in Sver Wala Show, Mayor John McCallum had attacked Hundial and Locke for allegedly retracting from their pre-poll promises.

B-C Emergency Health says paramedics responded to more than 24-thousand overdose calls across the province last year, which amounts to an average of 66 calls each day. The health service says up until 2015, overdose calls in B-C fluctuated from 10 to 15-thousand each year, but by 2017 the number exceeded 23-thousand. It says this year's calls represent a two per cent increase ove 2018 and Vancouver, Surrey and Victoria continue to see the highest number of calls. There were nearly 86-hundred calls in Vancouver, an increase of eight per cent over the year before.

An inquest will begin into the death of a 49-year-old Nanaimo man three years after he was fatally shot by police.Craig Ford was walking through a residential area of the city carrying a knife in June 2016 when officers arrived. The office that examines all cases of police-involved injury or death later ruled the shooting was justified because Ford repeatedly refused orders to drop the knife and advanced toward officers. The inquest into his death -- which is mandatory -- will begin on July 27th in Nanaimo.

A senior Vancouver police officer has been ordered dismissed from the force for discreditable conduct after an inappropriate relationship with a junior constable who died by suicide. The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner says in a statement the order was made against Sgt. Dave Van Patten but he can request a review of the decision. It says Const. Nicole Chan killed herself last January and the police complaint commissioner ordered an investigation, which was conducted by the New Westminster police.
