Alberta Emergency Alert says storm caused property damage in southeast
Alberta Emergency Alert says a storm has caused damage to homes and vehicles in the southeastern corner of the province. It initially called it a tornado, but now says it was a storm with dangerous and damaging winds around Highway 523, which is west of Medicine Hat, Alta. RCMP say they received reports of a possible tornado touching down on Highway 3, which runs southwest of the city, overturning a motorhome, but they say there are no reports of injuries or missing people. Canada's Camryn Rogers creates history in World Athletics Chaimpionship
Canada's Camryn Rogers unleashed a hammer throw yesterday that soared straight into the history books. The 23 year old from Richmond, BC, threw 75.52 metres to win silver at the world track and field championships in Eugene, Oregon. It was not only Canada's first world medal in women's hammer, but the country's first women's podium finish in a field event. American Brooke Andersen won the gold and Janee Kassanavoid of the U.S. claimed bronze. Jillian Weir of Kingston, Ont., was fifth with a throw of 72.41.

Pat King, an organizer of the "Freedom Convoy" that gridlocked downtown Ottawa for three weeks, granted bail
There were tears shed by some in an Ottawa courtroom as one of the so-called Freedom Convoy protest organizers was granted bail. Pat King, wearing a plaid shirt and his hair in a long braid, nodded as the judge's reasons were handed down. In the courtroom, supporters wearing T-shirts that said ``Free Pat King'' brought tissues to their eyes. King will have to leave Ottawa in 24 hours to return to Alberta, where he will be required to live with a surety. He's facing charges including mischief, intimidation, obstructing police and disobeying a court order.

Selina Robinson says, she'll pass on the opportunity to replace Premier John Horgan
Another NDP cabinet minister has ruled out running for the job to replace Premier John Horgan. Finance Minister Selina Robinson says she's looked ahead in her life for the next five to eight years and has decided to pass on the opportunity. Robinson says in a tweet that she has seriously considered the job and thanks those who offered their financial support or to work on her campaign. The New Democratic Party announced over the weekend that voting for Horgan's successor will start November 13th with the results released December third.

Ottawa to provide $870 million to support B.C. flood, landslide recovery efforts
Canada's emergency preparedness minister says Ottawa is providing $870 million to support recovery efforts after destructive flooding in British Columbia last fall. France, United Arab Emirates sign deal on energy cooperation
France and the United Arab Emirates have signed an agreement on energy cooperation to ensure oil and gas supplies from the Gulf country.
The deal announced by the French economy ministry Monday comes as Europe prepares for the possibility of a total cutoff of Russian natural gas in retaliation for sanctions over the war in Ukraine.

Former Edmonton nightclub employee loses appeal of sex assault conviction
EDMONTON - An appeal by a former Edmonton nightclub employee who was found guilty of sexually assaulting five women has been dismissed.
Matthew McKnight, who is in his mid-30s, was accused of sexually assaulting 13 women ranging in age from 17 to 22 between 2010 and 2016.
A jury found him guilty in five of the assaults in January 2020 and he was later sentenced to eight years in prison.
McKnight's defence team filed the notice of appeal of his conviction in August 2020, and it was heard by the Alberta Court of Appeal in June 2021.
The decision by a panel of three judges was released today.

Judge denies bail for fourth murder conspiracy suspect in Coutts, Alta. protest
A judge has denied bail for the fourth man charged with conspiracy to commit murder at a border blockade
earlier this year in southern Alberta.
Queen's Bench Justice Johnna Kubik ruled in Lethbridge court today that Jerry Morin, who is 40, must remain in custody until his trial.
Morin, Anthony Olienick, Chris Carbert and Christopher Lysak are accused of conspiring to kill police officers at a blockade near Coutts, Alta., in protest of COVID-19 vaccine mandates and other pandemic restrictions.
Olienick, Carbert and Lysak had already been denied bail.
