RCMP in southern Alberta say six teens in Nanton are facing criminal charges after a 13-year-old girl was allegedly chased and bullied late last month. Police say they have arrested and charged five 14-year-olds and a 15-year-old, none of whom can be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. They are facing a total of 10 criminal charges that include intimidation, mischief and uttering threats. Police say their investigation found a long history of inappropriate behaviour between the group and the girl.

Police say there could be criminal charges after an 83-year-old woman died following an attack by three dogs in northwest Calgary. Paramedics responded to a call yesterday from the Capitol Hill community. The senior was found withevery serious injuries and died on her way to hospital. Police say she was doing yard work in the back alley when a neighbour's dogs attacked her. According to police, depending on the outcome of the investigation, criminal charges or fines could be laid while the dogs could be euthanized. Officers are not revealing what breed the dogs are.

A two-week trial scheduled to begin in the tax evasion case of Rob Anders, a former Conservative member of Parliament, has been cancelled after the Crown stayed all charges. Anders, who is now 50, faced five charges, some of which dated back to his time in politics. He was elected as a Reform MP in 1997 and went on to to represent his Calgary riding until 2015. A Crown prosecutor told reporters that he received new evidence last week that would have made it difficult to secure a conviction. Anders' lawyer said his client was very relieved. The former MP was not in court today.

The Alberta government is warning that the wildfire risk in the province's north is climbing, and fire advisories have been issued for the Slave Lake Forest Area and the High Level Forest Area. The province says those areas are experiencing warm, dry weather which is expected to continue for the next several days. A blaze 30 kilometres west of Chipewyan Lakes was spotted Saturday afternoon, which the province says was slowed by airtankers, but it was still 270 hectares in size yesterday and was classed as out of control. No communities were under threat.

People in Edmonton are being warned to be wary of aggressive coyotes after a man and his dog were attacked by five of the animals in a south Edmonton park. The city says the dog-walker tried to scare the coyotes away but was not able to do so and both the dog and its owner were treated for minor injuries. coyotes attacked a man walking his dog near Thibault Park in Terwillegar around 10 a.m. on Tuesday. The city says two of the coyotes that were believed to have been involved have been killed. A city official says there are reports someone has been feeding coyotes in the area.

Alberta's chief medical officer of health says the province has identified a case of monkeypox. Dr. Deena Hinshaw says in a post on social media that an adult has tested positive for the rare disease that can cause fevers, aches and rashes. She also says monkeypox does not spread easily between people. Monkeypox typically spreads from close person-to-person contact through respiratory droplets, direct contact with skin lesions or bodily fluids, or indirect contact through contaminated clothing or linens. The Alberta government says a private laboratory service that collects blood and other samples for medical testing will be expanding its operations. Health Minister Jason Copping says DynaLIFE (DYE'-nah-life) Medical Labs, which already operates in Edmonton and some northerncommunities, will upgrade its facilities and open more service centres.
