Lava from volcano on Spain's La Palma forces 800 to evacuate
Hundreds of people in Spain's Canary Islands are fearing for their homes and property after a new lava stream from an erupting volcano threatened to engulf another neighborhood on the island of La Palma. Island authorities ordered the evacuation of around 800 people from a coastal town after the lava took a new course on its way to the Atlantic Ocean. It was the first mass exit since 6,000 people were told to leave after the Cumbre Vieja volcano first erupted on Sept. 19. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez traveled to La Palma on Wednesday. Three BC ski resorts putting in vaccine mandate to be eligible to work
A trio of BC ski resorts will be requiring staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to be eligible to work. Grouse Mountain, Whistler Blackcomb and Big White Ski Resort have all brought in vaccine mandates for their employees. Michael Ballingall, from Big White, which was the site of a large outbreak earlier in the pandemic, says no one is really pushing back against their mandate. He says he's hoping for a more financially successful ski season this year, adding the Lower Mainland is the resort's biggest market in the world.

William Shatner, TV's Capt. Kirk, blasts into space
Hollywood's Captain Kirk, 90-year-old William Shatner, has blasted into space and safely returned to Earth in a convergence of science fiction and science reality. He set out Wednesday morning for the final frontier aboard a ship built by Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin company. The ``Star Trek'' hero becomes the oldest person to ride a rocket. The fully automatic spacecraft reached an altitude of 66.5 miles over the West Texas desert. The up-and-down flight lasted about 10 minutes, with Shatner and his three fellow passengers parachuting back to Earth in the capsule.

Last rites of slain solider NK Mandeep Singh performed with full state honours
Last rites of slain solider NK Mandeep Singh were performed in Gurdaspur, Punjab on October 13.Indian Army personnel and his family members paid tributes to late Mandeep Singh. Full state honours were also given to the slain solider. A Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four Jawans of the Indian Army were injured in anti-terrorist operations and later lost their lives in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir on October 11.

Over a four-day period, B.C. is reporting 2,090 new cases of COVID-19, including four epi-linked cases, for a total of 194,581 cases in the province. BC health officials say they're considering implementing more COVID-19 restrictions in the Northern Health Region amid a surge in new cases. COVID-19 mask mandate now includes children aged five and older
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is expanding the COVID-19 mask mandate to include children aged five and older. Dr. Henry has been under pressure from some teachers and parents to include all children instead of just those aged 12 and up in the order to wear masks in public spaces. She also announced today that BC is planning to provide COVID-19 vaccinations to about 340-thousand children aged 5 to 11 as early as November, pending approval by Health Canada. Judge strikes down Maj.-Gen. Fortin's request for reinstatement to vaccine campaign
A federal judge has rejected a top Canadian soldier's bid to get his job back as the head of vaccine rollout in Canada. The decision by Justice Ann Marie McDonald follows a two-day hearing last month in which government lawyers argued that if Major-General Dany Fortin was not happy with his removal in May, he should file a formal complaint with the military. Fortin says his ouster was political. McDonald says he should try the military's grievance system. He was sacked amid a sexual misconduct allegation dating back a couple of decades.
