Ottawa to offer universities, colleges low-cost loans to build new student housing
Housing Minister Sean Fraser says post-secondary institutions will be able to apply for low-interest loans to build student housing starting this fall.
Post-secondary institutions will have access to a pre-existing program that offers developers low-cost financing to build rental apartments.
The Apartment Construction Loan Program was topped up with an additional $15 billion this fall, bringing the total funding available to $40 billion.
Fraser is making the announcement today alongside other cabinet ministers as the House of Commons returns after a winter break.

Pierre Poilievre, leader of Canada's main opposition party, took sharp aim at Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the first day of proceedings in the House of Commons on Monday.

BC: Bodies of victims killed in helicopter accident recovered
The head of the heli-skiing company involved in a fatal crash north of Terrace says the three victims' bodies have been recovered after nearly a week.
A statement from John Forrest, president of Northern Escape Heli-Skiing, says the R-C-M-P along with Terrace Search and Rescue led the effort yesterday (Sunday).

Foreign interference inquiry to probe thorny questions on secrecy as hearings begin
A federal inquiry into foreign interference begins a week of hearings today on the preliminary point of how to handle the shroud of official secrecy around the controversial issue.

A small camp in America was attacked by a drone last night
A drone attack on a small US camp near the Syrian border in Jordan has taken place last night, killing three soldiers and injuring more than 30.
Iran has been accused of being behind the attack and President Joe Biden has warned of a befitting response. The attack is expected to worsen the situation in the Middle East, which is already in a bad state with Israel and Hamas in Gaza.

Drug trafficking case: 4 persons close to Bikram Singh Majithia summoned for questioning
In the case of drug trafficking worth crores of rupees in Punjab, the special investigation team of the police has summoned 4 persons close to Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia for questioning.
They also include the names of people who were Majithia's former PA and OSD. In the Majithia case, DIG SHO Bhullar of Patiala range is leading the investigation.
Their special investigation team interrogated Majithia for seven hours on January 15. In this case registered on 20 December 2021, Majithia is on bail but the Punjab Police has not yet filed any charge sheet against him.
