Chinese airliner crashes with 132 aboard in country's south

China Eastern Airlines has grounded its fleet of Boeing 737-800 jets after China's worst air disaster in nearly a decade.A flight with 132 people aboard plunged into a forested area in southern China, causing a fire big enough to be seen on NASA satellite images.Data from flight-tracking website FlightRadar24-dot-com shows the plane went into a deep dive from its cruising altitude of about 30-thousand feet and crashed about 90-seconds later.

Police seeking information to help identify robbery suspect

Surrey RCMP is releasing the photo of a robbery suspect and seeking the public’s assistance with identifying the man. Record hate crimes reported in 2020: Statistics Canada

A record high 2,669 hate crimes were reported to police in 2020. Statistics Canada says the figure shot up 37 per cent from 2019, as the overall rate of police-reported crime, excluding traffic offences, dropped 10 per cent. Hate crimes targeting East or Southeast Asian people soared 301 per cent, those against Indigenous people went up 152 per cent and hate crimes targeting Black people went up 92 per cent. The highest increase in police-reported hate crimes was in Nova Scotia, followed by BC and Saskatchewan.

Two drivers killed in head-on crash in Kootenay National Park

Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park on Wednesday evening, according to the RCMP. Police said officers responded at about 5:30 p.m. to reports of a serious crash near the Simpson Monument. Investigators determined that a westbound vehicle crossed the centre line while negotiating a curve and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle. According to the RCMP, each vehicle was occupied only by its driver. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. A third vehicle was also involved in the incident, and its two occupants suffered minor injuries.
