46 new deaths and over 2,000 COVID-19 cases reported in B.C.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry is reporting a record 46 deaths over the past three days due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Henry says that brings the total in the province to 441 with most of the latest deaths among residents in long-term care. She says 2,364 new cases of COVID-19 were reported over the past three days, including 277 historical cases due to a problem with lab reporting last week in the Fraser Health region. Dr. Henry says the province now has 8,855 active cases, with 316 people in hospital including 75 in intensive care.

Naval exercise begins today off the western Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands

A naval exercise called Trident Fury 20 is set to begin today off western Vancouver Island and the southern Gulf Islands. Maritime Forces Pacific says the exercise will continue until December 13th and include participation from the Royal Canadian Navy, the Royal Canadian Air Force, US Navy aircraft and US Coast Guard. Trident Fury 20 is designed to provide tactical warfare training to offshore threats and improve co-ordination between forces. Major crimes detectives say young children and other family members were at a home in the 32000-block of Adair Avenue Saturday night when shots were fired. Surrey RCMP say a man is dead following a shooting in Fleetwood Sunday evening.They say officers responded to a shooting call around 7:40 p.m. in front of a shopping complex at the corner of 152 Street and Fraser Highway.
