Woman fatally shot inside the U.S. Capitol identified as Ashli Babbitt
Authorities have identified the woman who was fatally shot inside the U.S. Capitol as Ashli Babbitt. Family and her social media accounts say she was an Air Force veteran from San Diego and avid supporter of President Donald Trump and his efforts to stay in office. Police say she was part of a crowd that was breaking down the doors to a barricaded room where armed officers stood on the other side. The 35 year old woman got married in 2019 and she and her husband run a pool company. Her husband says "she loved her country and she was doing what she thought was right to support her country."

Governor General Julie Payette says, vaccines give hope but there aren't yet enough to go around
Governor General Julie Payette says it's the duty of every Canadian to adhere to public health measures.She said these measures are aimed at curbing the spread of COVID-19. She says in a video statement we owe it to front-line health workers, seniors, our loved ones and other people's loved ones to make the necessary sacrifices. Payette says vaccines give hope but there aren't yet enough to go around. She says keeping apart, minimizing movements and following restrictions are still the only ways to get the pandemic under control.

Victim of a random machete attack in Vancouver credits his hat for saving life
The victim of a random machete attack in downtown Vancouver on New Year's Eve says he credits his hat for helping save his life. William Johnson says he was hit over the head with a machete outside the Blenz coffee shop near Granville and Nelson streets at about 7 p-m. Johnson says he believes his hat helped save his life as he only required four stitches. A 33 year old man has been charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.The man has also been charged with two counts of assault causing bodily harm, robbery, and possession of a dangerous weapon in connection with the incidents.

Calgary man, B.C. woman killed after stopping at side of highway in B.C.
The RCMP say a Calgary man and B.C. woman have been attacked and killed after stopping on the side of a highway just west of Creston, B.C. Police say the victims were found at around 7 p.m. Wednesday just a few kilometres outside Creston at a pullout on Highway 3 in southeast B.C. Both had been stabbed and police say the suspect is reported to have fled in a vehicle belonging to one of the victims. Man with gang ties is victim of targeted shooting in Surrey, B.C. say police
Investigators are appealing for witnesses, dashcam video or other surveillance tape as they investigate the first homicide of the year in Surrey, B.C.A statement from the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team identifies 24-year-old Gary Kang as the man fatally shot at his home in Surrey's Morgan Heights neighbourhood early Wednesday.The statement says Kang was known to police, had a history of gang activity and his death is linked to ongoing conflict in Metro Vancouver. Protesting farmers hold tractor march at Ghazipur border
Farmers' protest against the farm laws entered 43rd Day on January 07. Protesting farmers held a tractor rally at four borders of Delhi including Eastern and Western peripheral expressways. The tractor march is a rehearsal of the mega show on January 26. 625 new COVID-19 cases and 8 deaths reported in B.C.
British Columbia's health minister and provincial health officer urged people to look after their mental health and well-being as the province reported 625 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. Transport Minister Marc Garneau says as of midnight tonight, air travellers coming from abroad will have to show proof of negative COVID-19 test results. He says this new interim order will provide an additional layer of protection for Canadians and travellers. At the same time, a ban on people flying in from the UK is being lifted.
