A proactive traffic stop in Surrey by the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia’s Uniform Gang Enforcement Team resulted in the seizure of more than 3.5 kilograms of suspected illicit drugs, according to a police release.
CFSEU-BC said the stop took place on March 24 as part of ongoing enforcement targeting organized crime. Officers located bulk quantities of drugs packaged in vacuum-sealed bags. The substances were processed and identified as approximately 1.293 kilograms of fentanyl, 1.064 kilograms of cocaine and 1.149 kilograms of methamphetamine.
Police said the fentanyl included multiple coloured variants, with quantities of purple, yellow and red fentanyl seized. The drugs are believed to have been at the distribution stage, though investigators have not confirmed where they were destined.
Two individuals were arrested at the scene. According to CFSEU-BC, one suspect was found to be in violation of study permit conditions and was transferred to a Canada Border Services Agency immigration holding centre, where he remains in custody. The second individual was issued tickets related to speeding and received a seven-month driving prohibition.
“This seizure represents a significant financial blow to organized crime,” Sgt. Sarbjit K. Sangha of CFSEU-BC said in the release, adding that intercepting drugs at the distribution level disrupts supply chains and profits tied to gang activity.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police say charges are expected to be recommended following further review.
