Alberta won’t enforce federal firearm buyback

The Alberta government is calling a federal gun buyback program an ``attack on law-abiding firearms owners.'' A pilot project in Nova Scotia will be open to eligible gun owners in parts of Cape Breton before being rolled out nationwide. Participants can either deactivate their firearm using a licensed gunsmith or return it to police. Alberta Justice Minister Mickey Amery and Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis say the province will not be enforcing the ``gun grab,'' and they expect law enforcement to focus on violent criminals, not hunters and sport shooters.

Trump comments on recognizing Palestine as a state

US President Donald Trump, during his address to the United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday, said recognizing it as a state would be tantamount to "rewarding" Hamas for its atrocities. Saskatchewan recorded a 40% decline in sales of American alcohol and wine during 2025-26, with California wines among the hardest hit. The decline comes a year after the provincial government decided to return American alcohol to liquor stores despite the ongoing tariff dispute. However, consumers appear to have voluntarily distanced themselves from U.S. brands. At the same time, sales of locally produced Saskatchewan alcohol increased by 5%, suggesting that some consumers are choosing domestic alternatives. Retailers say demand for popular American bourbon brands such as Jack Daniel’s and J
