Burnaby RCMP is asking the public for dashcam video and eyewitness accounts as investigators look into a collision that killed a pedestrian earlier this week. The incident happened on Monday evening along a busy stretch of Kingsway near Edmonds Street, an area that connects Burnaby and southeast Metro Vancouver communities.

Police say officers were called just after 7 p.m. on December 1 after a pedestrian was struck by an eastbound vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. The Burnaby RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team has taken over the case, which typically handles serious and fatal motor-vehicle incidents.

Mounties say they are working to piece together what unfolded before the impact, including assessing traffic patterns and visibility conditions at the time. Cpl. Mike Kalanj said investigators want to hear from anyone who was in the area between 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the night of the collision. Kingsway is a major commuter corridor linking Burnaby with New Westminster and Vancouver, and police believe additional footage or accounts could help clarify the circumstances.

Officers are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam video from Kingsway and Edmonds Street during that time window to contact Burnaby RCMP at 604-646-9999 and reference file number 2025-41886.

Alberta Could See Billions in Budget Surplus Amid High Oil Prices

The Alberta government is expected to record a budget surplus of billions of dollars this fiscal year, driven by higher crude oil prices. According to University of Calgary economics professor Trevor Tombe, the province has already accumulated a $3.8-billion surplus so far this fiscal year. He said every $1-per-barrel change in oil prices can make a difference of about $680 million to the provincial treasury. Tombe estimates that if oil prices remain above $66 per barrel, Alberta could end up with a surplus of around $6 billion, instead of the previously projected $9.4-billion deficit. Alberta

Trump says US will maintain ‘total control’ over Strait of Hormuz

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed that the United States has “total control” over the Strait of Hormuz and said Washington intends to maintain that control. In a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, Trump described the U.S. Navy’s blockade as a “wall of steel” and said there was nothing Iran could do about it. His comments come as shipping traffic through the strategic waterway has dropped sharply. Only eight vessels passed through the Strait on Tuesday, compared with around 130 to 140 vessels per day before the war. Iran, meanwhile, says full maritime traffic through
