Work will get underway in fall 2025 on a project to replace the aging Sackum overhead bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Lytton, improving safety and supporting the long-term reliability of Highway 1 in the region. On August 11, 2025 at 1:42pm, the Fort St John RCMP received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 97 North at the 269 Rd, just north of Fort St John. It was reported that an SUV had collided with a tanker truck. Fort St John RCMP, BC Ambulance Service and Charlie Lake and Fort St John Fire Services all attended the scene. Fort St John RCMP frontline police officers determined that a southbound SUV failed to stop for a red light and collided with the tanker truck while the tanker truck was turning left onto Highway 97 from 269 Rd.
