Sukhbir Badal-led delegation meets Punjab Guv, demands CBI, ED probe into state Excise Policy
A delegation, including Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal, submitted a memorandum to Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Wednesday and demanded a CBI inquiry into state excise policy.
The delegation alleged a scam in the policy.
"There has been a scam in Punjab Excise Policy just like it happened in Delhi. Just like the Delhi LG has ordered an inquiry into the Excise Policy case, we demand a CBI inquiry along the same lines in Punjab," said Badal.

Alberta's surplus is likely to be $13.2 billion in 2022-23 : Kenney
Alberta Premier Jason Kenney says the province is on track for a $13.2-billion surplus in this budget year.
That is above the $511-million surplus forecast when the provincial budget was introduced in February.
The province is riding another wave of financial prosperity due to high oil and gas prices, along with higher royalty payouts from maturing oilsands projects.
Kenney, currently on a government trip in South Korea, made the announcement in a video posted to Twitter.

Danielle Smith faces renewed attacks in final Alberta UCP leadership debate
Danielle Smith was facing renewed attacks Tuesday during the final debate in the campaign to replace Jason Kenney as Alberta's UCP leader and premier.
Smith was criticized for her proposed Alberta sovereignty act and for leading a mass floor crossing to the Progressive Conservatives in late 2014.
Smith was also attacked by multiple candidates for her policy plan to pass a bill giving the province the right to ignore federal laws and court rulings deemed harmful to its interests.
Critics, including legal scholars, say such a bill is not only illegal but will create a constitutional crisis.

Surrey RCMP asking for help to locate Navdeep Kaur
Surrey RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance with locating a missing 25-year-old woman. Navdeep Kaur was last seen on August 22, 2022 at 06:30 a.m., at a residence in the 6700-block of 150 Street. Police and family are concerned for Navdeep’s wellbeing as they have been unable to make contact with her.Navdeep is described as a South Asian female, 5’5, with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. Police investigating suspicious incident on Quayside drive in New Westminster
On August 27th, 2022 at 10:20pm, the New Westminster Police Department was notified about a suspicious incident that occurred earlier in the evening at approximately 7:30pm on Quayside Drive. The victim said they were walking on the sidewalk along Quayside Drive when they were approached by a blue van with two male occupants. B.C.'s posts $1.3B budget surplus for 2021-22, in contrast with big deficit forecast
British Columbia's economic recovery last year was stronger than forecast with the province's audited budget numbers showing a surplus of $1.3 billion, in contrast with an earlier projection of a deficit nearing $10 billion. Federal government says it will build 17,000 homes, pegs cost at $2 billion
The federal government says it will spend more than $2 billion to build 17,000 homes, including thousands of affordable units. Three men dead after a fiery crash on the Trans-Canada Highway
Police say three men died in a fiery crash that closed the Trans-Canada Highway in Yoho National Park for 37 hours.
RCMP say the collision just west of the British Columbia-Alberta boundary happened just before 6:50 a-m Sunday.
The preliminary investigation suggests a westbound semi truck hauling cattle crossed over the centre line and hit an eastbound semi-truck hauling lumber.
All but one of the cows also died.
The highway reopened around 8 p-m last night.
