Amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Peddi and its portrayal of women, actress-politician Kangana Ranaut has shared her views on the debate. The film, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, has faced criticism for the depiction of Janhvi Kapoor’s character Achiyamma, with viewers calling out repeated close-up shots, suggestive camera angles, and certain dialogues delivered by Ram Charan’s character.
Following the backlash, Buchi Babu Sana apologised to audiences and announced changes to the disputed scenes. He clarified that objectifying women was never his intention and that he did not want viewers to feel uncomfortable.
Speaking to a new agency, Kangana said filmmakers may not always realise how certain creative choices can be perceived by audiences. She stressed that open conversations between actors and directors are important, as actors can point out scenes or dialogues that may come across as inappropriate. According to her, such discussions can help filmmakers rethink and improve their approach, making cinema a more collaborative process.
Since its release on June 4, Peddi has remained at the centre of social media discussions, with many users criticising what they describe as the unnecessary sexualisation of Janhvi Kapoor’s character.
