WhatsApp moves Delhi HC against Centre''s recently imposed IT Rules

WhatsApp on May 26 has moved to high court against the policies imposed by Centre which includes to "trace" the origin of particular message sent on the service.

But on the other hand opposing to this WhatsApp said, "Requiring messaging apps to 'trace' chats is the equivalent of asking us to keep a fingerprint of every single message sent on whastapp, which would break end to end encryption and fundamentally undermines people's right to privacy."

On February 25, the Centre framed the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021, in the exercise of powers under section 87 (2) of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and in supersession of the earlier Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines) Rules 2011, which will come into effect from May 26.

The new guidelines issued by the government of India mandated a grievance redressal system for over the top (OTT) and digital portals in the country.

OPP charges 21 in cross-border drug trafficking investigation, seizes more than 1.7 tonnes of illicit drugs

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) says more than 1.7 tonnes of illicit drugs with an estimated street value exceeding $139 million were seized during a cross-border investigation known as Project Bay. According to the OPP, a total of 21 people have been charged in connection with the investigation. Abbotsford police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with an alleged knifepoint carjacking in the 2800 block of Livingstone Avenue.
