Trudeaus announce separation after 18 years of marriage

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie Grégoire Trudeau are separating after 18 years of marriage.

This was announced in online statements issued by both.

"Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate," Trudeau wrote in his Instagram post.

He wrote in the post that for the welfare of his children, people should respect the privacy of the family.

It is worth mentioning that both of them have two sons and one daughter.

Justin Trudeau, 51, and Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, 48, were married in May 2005.

According to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office, Trudeau and Sophie have signed a legal separation agreement.
