On Friday, Justin Trudeau reshuffled his cabinet, inducting 8 new MPs and making minor changes to the portfolios of 4 current ministers. The reshuffle follows the sudden resignation of former Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland.

The new ministers were sworn in at Rideau Hall on Friday. Dominique LeBlanc, who had previously served as Finance Minister, has now been assigned the Public Safety Ministry. David McGuinty, the brother of Ottawa-area MP and former Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty, will also join the cabinet.

Anita Anand, who serves as Transport Minister, will now take on additional responsibilities for the Ministry of Internal Trade. Meanwhile, Labour Minister Steven McKinnon will also assume the portfolio of Employment and Workforce Development.

The Treasury Board has been assigned to Jeanette Pettypas Taylor, which was previously held by Anita Anand.

In the wake of the cabinet changes, a recent survey shows a five-point drop in Liberal support since September, bringing it to 21 percent. The Liberals’ support is now on par with the New Democratic Party.
