Authorities in Amritsar ordered an immediate shutdown of several private schools after administrators reported receiving an email threatening bomb attacks on campus. The message, sent to multiple institutions early Tuesday, triggered evacuations and a large-scale police deployment.
Local officials said at least 15 well-known private schools were identified in the threat. Police teams, including the bomb squad and fire services, secured school grounds while investigators worked to verify the credibility of the email. The Deputy Commissioner directed schools to release students for the day as a precaution.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said the investigation has been escalated to Punjab’s state cyber cell, with support from federal agencies to trace the source of the email. He noted that authorities are treating the situation with full seriousness and expect to clarify the origins of the threat soon.
The incident has raised concerns among families in Punjab and within the broader South Asian diaspora in Canada, where school safety remains a sensitive topic following past security alerts involving community institutions. Officials have urged parents to rely on verified updates from district authorities.
