Surrey RCMP is proud to share that 34 officers are being honored by Alexa’s Team for their outstanding efforts removing 1,219 impaired drivers from roadways in 2020.

Alexa’s Team was launched in 2008 as a tribute to four-year-old Alexa Middelar whose life was tragically taken by a drunk driver. Each year, Alexa’s Team recognizes police officers in B.C. who demonstrate extraordinary efforts in removing impaired drivers from B.C. roads.

This year, 34 Surrey RCMP officers are being recognized by Alexa’s Team for their dedication and efforts taking impaired drivers off the roads in 2020. Constable Murray McLennan of Surrey RCMP Traffic Services made the top of the list with 104 impaired driving investigations. A total of 11 of the officers being recognized earned all-star team status for removing 25 or more impaired drivers from our roads.

Removing impaired drivers from our roads through targeted traffic enforcement directly contributes to public safety for all road users in our community, says Surrey RCMP Community Services Officer Superintendent Aaron Paradis. As we approach a busy holiday season, Surrey RCMP reminds you to think of Alexa and all the families impacted by impaired driving before you get behind the wheel of your car.

Surrey RCMP will be out this Holiday season looking for impaired drivers and other dangerous driving behaviours that put others at risk. If you witness a suspected impaired driver, call police as soon as it is safe to do so. Try and provide as much information about the vehicle, the driver the vehicle’s direction of travel and what activity you observed.
