Former DGP of Punjab Sumedh Singh Saini has received a big blow. The Supreme Court has refused to quash the FIR filed against Sumedh Singh Saini in connection with the disappearance and murder of junior engineer Balwant Singh Multani in 1991.

The lawyer appearing for Saini, appealing to cancel the FIR, said that this case was registered against him for political reasons in 2020, many years after the alleged incident.

On this, the Supreme Court said that the charge sheet has been filed in the case, so the court cannot reject the FIR at this level. The bench said that Saini can face the proceedings in the lower court and challenge it on an appropriate platform.
