Canadian swimmer Summer McIntosh has won her third consecutive gold medal at the World Swimming Championships being played in Singapore. Today, Summer McIntosh won the gold medal in the women's 200-meter butterfly event with a timing of 2 minutes 1.99 seconds.
Summer McIntosh missed out on setting a world record in the event by just .18 seconds (point 18 seconds). She said she wasn't happy with her swim in the final 25 meters but was happy to win the gold medal.
With McIntosh’s win, Canada continues to build its reputation as a swimming powerhouse. Local coaches and players say her success is inspiring a new generation of Canadian swimmers. Talking with Connect FM, a young parent who is taking his son to Surrey Knights in Surrey told that McIntosh’s rise has already encouraged more registrations: "Her success shows young athletes that Canadians can dominate on the world stage."
In this event, Regan Smith of the United States won the silver medal and Elizabeth Dekkers of Australia won the bronze medal.
Meanwhile, Canada suffered a disappointment in the women's 50-meter backstroke event today.
In this event, Canada's Kylie Masse finished fourth and Canadian Ingrid Wilm finished eighth. The Chinese swimmer, who finished third in the close contest, had a timing of 27.30 seconds, while Kylie Masse completed the event in 27.33 seconds.
