Senior leader of Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab and National Vice President Sukhwinderpal Singh Garcha has joined BJP. He resigned from Akali Dal 2 days ago.

On Friday, he accepted the membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of state president Sunil Jakhar in Chandigarh. Sukhwinderpal Singh Garcha was associated with the Shiromani Akali Dal for the last two and a half decades.

He joined the party under the leadership of late Sardar Parkash Singh Badal in 1996. It is to be noted that although BJP did not get any seat in the Lok Sabha elections, its votes were more than the candidates of Akali Dal in most of the seats.
