Sri Anandpur Sahib Sarai Incident: SGPC Forms Five-Member Probe Panel, Giani Malkit Singh Relieved of Duties

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, said on Monday that a five-member inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the incident that took place at the sarai (guest house) at Sri Anandpur Sahib.

Dhami said the committee has been directed to submit its report within 15 days. Meanwhile, Giani Malkit Singh, the additional head granthi of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, who had earlier been suspended, has now been relieved of his services.

Dhami also clarified his position on the matter, saying he had no information about the arrival of the woman from Bahrain and that she had never met him or informed him about the incident. He termed the allegations levelled against him as baseless.

He further said the resignation submitted by SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla has been accepted with immediate effect.

Earlier, in connection with the matter, the five Sikh high priests had excommunicated SGPC member Amarjit Singh Chawla and Giani Malkit Singh from the Sikh community and directed Sikh devotees not to maintain any form of association with them.
