Six charged after Calgary police break up vehicle theft spree linked to autobody shop break-ins

Calgary police say six people are facing a combined total of more than 100 charges following an investigation into a series of vehicle thefts and commercial break-ins across the city.

Investigators say the case began in December after officers became aware that a repeat offender, who was on probation at the time, was allegedly in possession of a stolen vehicle. That discovery led police to uncover what they describe as an organized pattern of thefts over a two-week period.

According to police, multiple autobody shops were targeted, with suspects breaking into several businesses to steal vehicles and other property. In one incident, a tow truck was allegedly used to smash through the wall of a business to gain access.

Police say 14 stolen vehicles were recovered during the investigation. Officers also seized stolen property, cash, two firearms and ammunition. The investigation remains part of broader efforts by Calgary police to address property crime and vehicle theft, which continue to affect businesses and residents across the city.
