In the first match of the Super-8 round of the T20 World Cup 2024, South Africa defeated the USA by 18 runs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua today.
Batting first, the South African team scored 194 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. In response, the American team was limited to 176 runs with six wickets.
Team USA captain Aaron Jones could not even open an account. South African team player Kagiso Rabada turned the match by taking the wicket of Harmeet Singh in the 19th over.
In the last two overs, USA needed 28 runs, then Harmeet Singh and Andries Gau were at the crease. Harmeet got out on the first ball of the 19th over, he could only score 38 runs.
Meanwhile, Andries Gau and Jasjit Singh were at the crease in the last over and USA needed 26 runs to win but the team managed to score only seven runs. Thus, the South African team won the first match of the Super-8 by 18 runs.
