BC Jobs Minister Ravi Kahlon says BC added just under 15-thousand full-time jobs in July as the provincial unemployment rate was set at 4.7 per cent, up one-tenth of a point from June.

A statement from the ministry says more people joined the workforce in BC last month than in any other major province, while more new residents moved to BC in the first quarter of 2022 than at any time in over 60 years.

Kahlon says the numbers mean BC continues to lead Canada's economic recovery.

Statistics Canada says the jobless rate in Kelowna was four per cent in July, unchanged from June, while Vancouver's rate fell from five per cent to 4.7 and Victoria and the Abbotsford area both saw modest increases, with Victoria's rate up to 4.3 per cent and Abbotsford climbing to 4.9 per cent.

Calgary asks residents to reduce water use as major feeder main shuts down for repairs

The City of Calgary is asking residents to limit water use for the next month as crews shut down a major feeder main for additional repairs. City officials say the Bearspaw South Feeder Main – which carries about 60 per cent of Calgary’s treated drinking water – has been taken offline while crews reinforce sections of the aging pipe. An Australian coroner says a 19-year-old woman from British Columbia drowned after being attacked by a pack of dingoes during an early morning walk on an island off Queensland.
