The Punjab government has issued orders for testing in state hospitals in accordance with the guidelines from the Center for HMPV. Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh stated that testing has been initiated in the state to ensure timely identification of patients.
He mentioned that special wards and beds are ready in all hospitals. Currently, no cases of this virus have been reported in Punjab. The minister emphasized that there is no need to panic about the virus, but small children and elderly individuals should take necessary precautions.
He clarified that HMPV is a 20-year-old virus and is generally mild. There is no significant danger from it. It causes symptoms like cough and cold, and, like other flu viruses, it spreads through close contact. He advised that individuals with a cough or cold should wear a mask and avoid crowded places.
