Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left on Tuesday for a three-day visit to Brunei and Singapore. After Brunei they will go to Singapore. The tour will take place between 4-5 September. PM Modi said in a tweet that the purpose of this visit will be to strengthen India's relationship.
In Brunei, he will meet Sultan Haji Bolkiah, who invited PM Modi. Meanwhile, President Tharman will meet Shanmugaratnam and other senior ministers in Singapore. PM Modi's visit to Brunei is important for defense partnership.
Both countries want to form a joint working group for cooperation in this area. Cooperation between India and Brunei is also expected to increase in energy sector and space sector.
Diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1984 and this year the relationship has completed 40 years. At present, about 14 thousand Indians live in Brunei.
