Canada’s Opposition Leader, Pierre Poilievre, has urged the Trudeau government to address recent threats from former US President Donald Trump. Poilievre condemned Trump’s remarks targeting Canada’s steel and aluminum industries, calling them intolerable and demanding a firm government response.

Responding to Trump’s suggestion of making Canada the 51st state, Poilievre declared, “Canada is a proud, sovereign, and independent country and always will be.”

The Conservative leader criticized Trudeau and former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney, asserting that Canadians are strong and will not bow to external pressure. Poilievre emphasized that a Conservative government under his leadership would prioritize Canada’s interests above all.

Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Ford Pickup in Hope

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Ford pickup truck on Highway 3 in the Hope area of B.C. Wednesday night. Hope RCMP said police received a report of the collision at around 8:38 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, the pedestrian had already died. Just minutes before the crash, police had also received a report of a person walking in the slow lane near the Highway 1 junction on Highway 5. Police said the truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Corporal Carmen Keener said there were no initial indications that alcohol was a factor.
