As the federal election approaches, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre and Liberal Leader Mark Carney are unveiling policies aimed at first-time homebuyers. On Tuesday, Poilievre announced his plan to eliminate the GST on new homes priced up to $1.3 million.
Poilievre claims this initiative will save Canadians up to $65,000 on home purchases in major cities. Last week, Liberal Leader Mark Carney proposed a similar policy, promising to exempt GST on homes priced up to $1 million for first-time buyers, which would provide savings of up to $50,000.
Meanwhile, a recent survey by Leger shows the Liberals are currently 6 points ahead of the Conservatives, with 44% of decisive voters favoring the Liberals and 38% supporting the Conservatives. The election, which will determine the majority, is set for April 28.
