Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre has vowed to reduce income taxes and completely eliminate the carbon tax if he becomes prime minister. Poilievre announced that he would lower the rate of the lowest tax bracket from 15 percent to 12.75 percent, resulting in a savings of $900 per person per year. He also took the opportunity to criticize the Liberal Party and its leader, Mark Carney.
Speaking at a rally in North York, Ontario, Poilievre accused the Liberals of postponing the carbon tax at gas stations for only 30 days before the election, rather than fully repealing it. He emphasized that a Conservative government would completely repeal the carbon tax, benefiting everyone, not just ordinary citizens.
In response, Liberal leader Mark Carney has also pledged to cut the lowest tax bracket, offering approximately $400 in income tax relief for the middle class.
