PM Mark Carney has given Dominic LeBlanc the additional responsibility of the Ministry of Internal Trade. At the same time, Steve McKinnon has been made Minister of Transport, who is also the government's House Leader in the House of Commons.
Both these departments were with Chrystia Freeland, who has been appointed as the Special Representative for Ukraine. Dominique LeBlanc was till now holding the responsibility as the President of the King's Privy Council for Canada and Minister of Canada-US Trade and Intergovernmental Affairs, who will now also serve as the Minister of Internal Trade.
It is noteworthy that Freeland, appointed as the Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine, has a deep connection with Ukraine, her mother was Ukrainian-Canadian.
Freeland has also worked as a journalist in Kiev and Moscow, after which she returned to Canada and worked as an editor in the late 1990s. A five-term MP, Freeland was first elected to the House of Commons in 2013.
