Conservative Leader Erin O'Toole says peaceful demonstration needs to be the focus of a truck convoy rolling into Ottawa to protest a vaccine mandate for truckers.

Even as reports surface of people trying to push extreme ideas as part of the convoy, Conservative finance critic Pierre Poilievre says it has his support and the extremist views held by some shouldn't be seen as a reflection on the whole event.

His remarks follow concerns raised about individuals belonging to extremist groups latching on to the demonstration headed to Parliament Hill.

Ottawa's Parliamentary Protective Service is expecting 10-thousand protesters this weekend to push back against COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccination mandates.

The group billing itself as Canada Unity is demanding that the Governor General and Senate combine forces to lift any remaining COVID-19 restrictions, waive all fines and cancel ``illegal'' vaccine passports.

Atmospheric river expected to bring heavy rain, snow and strong winds to B.C.’s north coast

An incoming atmospheric river is expected to bring significant rain, snow and high winds to British Columbia’s north coast, prompting multiple weather warnings from Environment Canada. Forecasters say coastal communities including Prince Rupert, Terrace and Kitimat could receive up to 100 millimetres of rain beginning late Thursday and continuing into Saturday morning. The rainfall raises concerns about localized flooding, particularly in low-lying and drainage-prone areas. Inland travel routes are also expected to be affected. Environment Canada warns that sections of major highways could s
