Minister Claire Trevena in 'Sver Wala Show': Municipalities can’t block ride sharing

Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, Claire Trevena made it clear today on Connect FM’s 'Sver Wala Show' that municipalities do not have the power to block ride sharing companies from operating.

She said that a city’s role is limited to issuing business licenses to these companies.

After a long wait of over two years, the Passenger Transportation Board (PTB) on Thursday, finally granted ride sharing giants Uber and Lyft licenses to operate in Metro Vancouver and Whistler.

The Mayor’s Council is working on an interim regional license which will save ride sharing companies the trouble of securing business licenses from every municipality in which they have license from PTB to operate.

Surrey’s Mayor Doug McCallum has made it clear on numerous occasions that he will not grant business license to any ride sharing company.

At least 30 people were killed after armed attackers raided a village in Nigeria's northwestern Kaduna state early Monday, according to local residents. Etobicoke Uber driver charged after alleged sexual assaults in Burlington

Halton Regional Police have arrested a 25-year-old Etobicoke man in connection with two alleged sexual assaults involving the same woman in Burlington. Gunfire damages U.S. Consulate building in Toronto

The U.S. Consulate at the intersection of University Avenue and Armoury Street in downtown Toronto was struck by gunfire early Monday morning, according to Toronto Police. No injuries were reported. Man dies after police-involved shooting in Abbotsford

A man has died following a police-involved shooting in Abbotsford early Monday morning, according to the Abbotsford Police Department. Sgt.
