Tomorrow morning, police across Delta, Surrey and Langley will be looking for distracted drivers during a one-day enforcement blitz as part of a provincial distracted driving education and enforcement campaign. (Photo - Langley RCMP/Twitter)

Tomorrow morning, police across Delta, Surrey and Langley will be looking for distracted drivers during a one-day enforcement blitz as part of a provincial distracted driving education and enforcement campaign. Police will be joined by ICBC road safety & community coordinators and local Cell Watch volunteers, who will be reminding drivers of an important message: leave your phone alone while driving.

Distracted driving is the second leading contributor in fatal crashes in B.C., behind speed and ahead of impaired driving, and is the top contributor in police-reported injury crashes.

When: Thursday, September 29 at 2:30pm

Where: 200th Street @ Willowbrook Drive (near Husky Gas Station)

Wildfire destroys seasonal camp at Whitewater Lake First Nation in northwestern Ontario

A wildfire has destroyed much of the seasonal camp at Whitewater Lake First Nation, located about 250 kilometres north of Thunder Bay, marking the second First Nation community in Ontario to suffer significant wildfire damage in less than a week. According to Chief Pauline Drake, the fire destroyed multiple buildings, personal belongings and critical infrastructure at the site. Canada’s annual inflation rate eases to 2.8% in June as gasoline prices fall

Canada’s annual inflation rate slowed to 2.8 per cent in June, down from 3.2 per cent in May, largely because of lower gasoline prices, according to Statistics Canada. The federal agency said a decline in fuel prices helped ease overall inflation pressures.
