Punjabi Sikh runner Fauja Singh has passed away. He was a resident of Beas village in Jalandhar. He breathed his last at the age of 114. According to reports, Fauja Singh was outside his house in the evening when he was injured after being hit by a car. He was taken to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where he breathed his last.
Known as the world's oldest marathon runner, Fauja Singh started his marathon in the year 2000, when he was 92 years old. In 2011, he made headlines around the world by participating in the Toronto Marathon and made a name for himself as the oldest marathon runner.
However, due to the lack of a birth certificate, his name could not be officially registered in the Guinness Book of World Records. But later he showed his British passport and a letter sent by Queen Elizabeth on his 100th birthday, after which his name was registered in the Guinness World Records.
