Man shot in Coquitlam, B.C., while son sat in back seat, RMCP say

The R-C-M-P say a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries in what they believe may have been a targeted shooting in Coquitlam on Saturday.

The Mounties say the man's nine-year-old son, who was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting, was unharmed.

They say there's not enough information yet to establish or rule out a link between the shooting and gang conflict in the Lower Mainland, but they don't believe it was a completely random act.

A silver sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting and police are asking anyone who was around Westwood Plateau between 4:20 and 5:20 in the afternoon to provide any information that could help.

Friday is the final day for Albertans to apply for a mail-in ballot for the upcoming referendum. Elections Alberta will accept applications until midnight tonight. Pedestrian Killed After Being Struck by Ford Pickup in Hope

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a Ford pickup truck on Highway 3 in the Hope area of B.C. Wednesday night. Hope RCMP said police received a report of the collision at around 8:38 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, the pedestrian had already died. Just minutes before the crash, police had also received a report of a person walking in the slow lane near the Highway 1 junction on Highway 5. Police said the truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Corporal Carmen Keener said there were no initial indications that alcohol was a factor.
