Man shot in Coquitlam, B.C., while son sat in back seat, RMCP say

The R-C-M-P say a man sustained non-life-threatening injuries in what they believe may have been a targeted shooting in Coquitlam on Saturday.

The Mounties say the man's nine-year-old son, who was in the back seat of the vehicle at the time of the shooting, was unharmed.

They say there's not enough information yet to establish or rule out a link between the shooting and gang conflict in the Lower Mainland, but they don't believe it was a completely random act.

A silver sedan was seen leaving the area after the shooting and police are asking anyone who was around Westwood Plateau between 4:20 and 5:20 in the afternoon to provide any information that could help.

One person was taken to hospital after an early morning house fire in southeast Calgary on Friday, while four other occupants and a family pet escaped the home safely. Two drivers were killed in a head-on collision on Highway 93 in Kootenay National Park on Wednesday evening, according to the RCMP. Police said officers responded at about 5:30 p.m. to reports of a serious crash near the Simpson Monument. Investigators determined that a westbound vehicle crossed the centre line while negotiating a curve and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle.
