Local teams compete for U-17 cup at Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships

Canada’s premier U-17 teams will compete for the 2022 Toyota National Championships October 5–10, 2022 at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey. (Photo - City of Surrey)

Canada’s premier U-17 teams will compete for the 2022 Toyota National Championships October 5–10, 2022 at Newton Athletic Park in Surrey. Come cheer on our local soccer teams on their home turf. Both the U-17 boys and U-17 girls from Surrey United Soccer Club will be competing for the U-17 cup.

This premier soccer event will welcome thousands of athletes and their supporters from across Canada. City of Surrey was announced as host for the 2022 and 2024 Canada Soccer Toyota National Championships in May of 2021. This is the first Toyota National Championships since the global pandemic, with the last season of winners crowned in 2019.

"Surrey is proud to welcome Canada Soccer’s 2022 Toyota National Championships to our world-class city and venue this fall," said Mayor Doug McCallum. "We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Surrey Football Club to deliver a top-level championship tournament and an unforgettable experience for visitors."

A 77-year-old man has died under suspicious circumstances in Fort St. James, B.C., with RCMP’s Major Crime Unit investigating the death as a possible homicide. They found the elderly man seriously injured at the scene and rushed him to hospital, where he later died despite medical efforts. The suspected attackers had fled before police arrived. Calgary Man Charged Over Death Threat Against PM Mark Carney

A 31-year-old Calgary man has been charged with allegedly making a death threat against Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) launched an investigation after receiving information about a threat against Carney from a YouTube account.
