There's going to be an inquiry into the government's decision to invoke the Emergencies Act in February to deal with border blockades and the occupation of downtown Ottawa.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says the Public Order Emergency Commission will look into the circumstances that led to the Act being invoked, the evolution of the convoy, the impact of funding and disinformation, the economic impact, and the police response.
It will present its final report by February 20th.
Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino says the government will ensure the inquiry has access to documents and information it needs and fully believes the government did the necessary thing by invoking the act for 10 days in mid-February.
Ontario Appeal Court Justice Paul S. Rouleau will be the inquiry commissioner and has until February 20th, 2023 to provide a written report to government.
