I-T raids premises of Rana Gurjeet Singh in Kapurthala, Chandigarh

The Income Tax department on Thursday held raids on the premises of Kapurthala Congress MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh at Kapurthala and Chandigarh.

The raids started early in the morning. The I-T teams from Ludhiana are learnt to be raiding the house and mill of the Ranas in Kapurthala and his houses in Sectors 4 and 9 and Flat No 53 in the MLA’s hostel in Chandigarh.

Having distilleries and sugar mills in Uttarakhand, UP and Punjab, Rana is one of the richest MLAs of Punjab. His son, Rana Inder Partap Singh, is an Independent MLA from Sultanpur Lodhi. The family owns two ethanol plants in Punjab, including the one at Buttar village in Amritsar.

Clinton Residents Fined $15,000 for Violating Evacuation Order

People who violated an evacuation order issued because of a wildfire in the B.C. village of Clinton have been fined a total of $15,000 over the past two weeks. Local authorities and police are urging residents to stay out of evacuation zones for their own safety. Charges approved following break-in to Chinatown business

Crown Counsel has approved one count of break-and-enter of a commercial business after Vancouver Police arrested a suspect yesterday. Just after 7 a.m., the Vancouver Police Department responded to a report of a broken window in a business near Georgia Street and Gore Avenue. B.C. Wildfire Official Warns of Arson Risk as Major Fires Intensify

British Columbia Wildfire Service Director Cliff Chapman has raised concerns over the current wildfire situation in the province and warned about the risk of deliberately set fires.
