Grand welcome for Punjabi Press Club of B.C. in legislative assembly

A grand welcome given to Punjabi Press Club of BC in BC Legislative Assembly, Victoria The Speaker of the BC Legislative Assembly Hon'ble Raj Chauhan specially invited the Punjabi Press Club of BC, the premier body of the Punjabi media in British Columbia to BC Legislative Assembly, Victoria. This was a special initiative on the 75th anniversary of the right of Indians to vote in Canada and the 'Sikh Heritage Month', dedicated to the Khalsa Sajna. This was the first time in the BC assembly that the Punjabi Press Club was given such an honour as an institution. In the BC Assembly, Ms. Harvinder Kaur Sandhu, MLA from Vernon – Monashee, from the ruling New Democratic Party, welcomed the members of the Punjabi Press Club. In her welcome address, Ms. Sandhu said that the Punjabi Press Club of BC acts as an excellent institution by upholding the high-profile standards of journalism and raising its voice in a democratic manner

Among the members of Punjabi Press Club present in the press gallery of the BC Assembly were Baljinder Kaur (Sanjha TV Punjab), Khushpal Singh Gill (Sach Di Awaz newspaper), Baldev Singh Mann (Red FM Radio), Dr. Gurwinder Singh Dhaliwal (Freelance Journalist), Kamaljit Singh Randhawa (SW Media Group), Rachhpal Singh Gill (Punjabi Tribune newspaper), Bakhshinder Khela (Freelance Journalist), Vinnie Combow (Connect FM Radio), Kuldip Singh (FYI Media, Sanjha TV, Punjab Radio), Santokh Singh Mander (Indo Canadian Times).

Subsequently, the spokespersons of the opposition Liberal Party and the Green Party also made the moment memorable by using praiseworthy words in honour of The Punjabi Press Club BC in the records of the BC Assembly.

On this occasion, Hon'ble Speaker Raj Chauhan arranged a special lunch for the Punjabi Press Club and shared detailed views regarding the 75th anniversary of the voting of Indians in Canada. The members of the Punjabi Press Club present at the ongoing proceedings of the BC Assembly received valuable information about the Sikh Heritage Month. NDP MLA and the Parliamentary Secretary on Anti-Racism Affairs, Rachna Singh shared information about struggle for the right to vote.

The personalities who gave warm welcome to members of the Punjabi Press Club of BC included Deputy Premier Mike Farnworth, opposition Liberal Party leader Kevin Falcon, Shirley Bond, Labour Minister Harry Bains, Caucus leader Jagrup Singh Brar, Minister Ravi Kahlon, MLA Aman Singh and MLA Jinny Sims among others.

In view of the Sikh Heritage Month, the Punjabi Press Club presented Dr. Gurbaksh Singh book in English about the Sikh heritage to prominent personalities. The Punjabi Press Club general secretary Khushpal Singh Gill thanked the group parties of BC Assembly for extending a special invitation and honour to the Punjabi Press Club.
