Twelve of the 400 or so blazes burning in British Columbia are described by the province's wildfire service as "wildfires of note," meaning they are highly visible or pose a threat to public safety.

Here is a look at the 12 fires, with information provided by the BC Wildfire Service as of Friday at 1 p.m., Pacific time:

Location:West and East of Adams Lake, north of Shuswap and Little Shuswap lakes, south of Highway 1 between Chase and Sorrento

Size: 431 square kilometres

Suspected cause: Lightning

  • Name: Casper Creek Wildfire

Location: 24 kilometres west of Lillooet

Size:110 square kilometres

Suspected cause: Lightning

  • Name: Kookipi Creek Wildfire

Location: 50 kilometres south of Lytton

Size: 170 square kilometres

Suspected cause: Lightning

  • Name: Stein Mountain Wildfire

Location: 15 kilometres northwest of Lytton, west of Fraser River

Size: 47 square kilometres

Suspected cause: Lightning

  • Name: McDougall Creek Wildfire

Location: Near West Kelowna

Size: 137 square kilometres

Cranbrook RCMP investigate targeted shooting at residence on 3rd Avenue South

Cranbrook RCMP say they are investigating a shooting that targeted a residence Sunday night in the city’s downtown area. Police said officers were called at about 9:22 p.m. on March 8 to a report of gunfire at a home in the 300 block of 3rd Avenue South. Suspect arrested after ATM stolen in Abbotsford business break-in, police say

A man is in custody after an ATM was stolen during a break and enter at a business in Abbotsford late Sunday night, according to the Abbotsford Police Department.
